Influenced by the Geneva Bible (1560), produced by Protestant Reformers in Switzerland, the KJV aimed to address issues perceived by the Puritans.

King James convened the Hampton Court Conference in January 1604, where a new English version was conceived. This translation adhered to the Church of England's ecclesiology and episcopal structure. The work was undertaken by 47 leading biblical scholars in England, dividing the translation task among six panels. The Old Testament was translated from Hebrew and Aramaic, the New Testament from Greek, and the Apocrypha from Greek and Latin.
